One of my favorite memories growing up happened every summer. The first week school was out, my mom would load all of us kids into the car and take us to a local bookstore called Rainy Day Books.
We would receive a reading log and spend the entire summer filling it out together. Every book we read brought us one step closer to completing our chart. At the end of the summer, we’d proudly return our completed reading log and get to choose a free book.
As a child, it felt magical. Looking back now as a mom, I realize it wasn’t really about the free book. It was about the memories. It was about slowing down. It was about spending time together. It was about falling in love with reading.
And now, years later, I wanted to create something that would help other families create those same memories.
Introducing Our Free Summer Reading Challenge
For the third year in a row, we’re bringing back our Evie Pearl Handmade Summer Reading Challenge. And it’s completely FREE.
Simply download our printable reading chart and start reading with your child throughout the summer. Click HERE to download. Each time your child reads, color in one of the bows on the chart.
The goal is simple:
Read together.
Make memories.
Fill in the bows.

How It Works
Step 1: Download the FREE printable reading chart.
Step 2: Read throughout the summer.
Step 3: Color in a bow for each reading session.
Step 4: Once completed, email your chart to us (eviepearlhandmade@gmail.com)
Step 5: Include a photo of your child holding their completed chart or a photo of them coloring in their bows.
Step 6: We’ll send you a code for a FREE bow from Evie Pearl Handmade.
It’s that easy.

Why Reading Matters During Summer
Summer is filled with camps, vacations, pool days, sports practices, and family adventures. While those memories are important, it’s also easy for reading habits to take a break.
Just 15-20 minutes of reading a day can help children maintain literacy skills, build vocabulary, strengthen imagination, and develop a lifelong love of books.
But more importantly? Reading together creates connection. Some of my favorite moments with my own children happen when we’re curled up reading a book together. Those are the moments they’ll remember.

Looking for Screen-Free Summer Activities?
If you’re anything like me, you’re constantly looking for activities that don’t involve another screen.
This challenge is one of my favorite screen-free summer activities because it encourages creativity, learning, and quality time together.
Visit your local library. Read under a blanket fort. Bring books to the pool. Pack stories for vacation. Create your own family reading tradition. The possibilities are endless.

More Than a Reading Challenge
This isn’t really about earning a free bow.
It’s about creating memories. It’s about encouraging curiosity. It’s about raising readers. It’s about making summer meaningful. Years from now, your child probably won’t remember what television show they watched on a random Tuesday afternoon.
But they might remember sitting beside you while reading their favorite book. That’s the magic we’re hoping to create.
